IMSE's major focus is on women empowerment programme, follows gender mainstreaming strategy and gender
focussed activities, taking into consideration that women empowerment can't be done in isolation until
and unless we understand gender dynamics of our society. The activities of the organisations under women
empowerment have two major sides firstly awareness generation and collectivisation of women and sensitisation
of all actors and secondly seeking recognition for women's paid and unpaid work as well as facilitating their
access to existing entitlements while trying to address the root causes of discriminations against women in our society.
The interventions of IMSE have already started yielding results and changed lives of more than 40,000 women directly and many more indirectly.
IMSE's women empowerment projects include: Capacity building of women activists & imparting trainings
to peasant women in three states of Eastern India - West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand in order to
support self help groups at community levels so that they can emerge as strong women's groups and
later link as a network. IMSE successfully supported leadership development from among community
women, who are giving leadership to various social movements in IMSE's working areas.
IMSE's Head Quarters at 195 Jodhpur Park at Kolkata, the hub of various development programmes,
hundreds of activists of IMSE in West Bengal, Jharkhand and Orissa worked tirelessly with great
devotion for changing the basic socio-economic structure of the society.
IMSE has been engaged in a variety programmes in last few years to translate its belief into
reality and for the betterment of the poor and needy women.
