APFP (Asia Pacific Farmers Programme) is a project funded by the International Fund For Agricultural Development (IFAD) and designed specifically to benefit the smallholder farmers and vulnerable farmers/producers across 29 counties of Asia and Pacific.
The overall goal of the project is to contribute to an enabling environment for rural poverty reduction, through instrumental support to rural smallholders and their organizations at national, sub-regional and regional levels in Asia and the Pacific.
The project specific objective is that farmer organizations are professionally capacitated to provide sustainable demand-driven (business and technical) services to their members and engage in effective dialogue for the improved livelihoods and incomes of smallholder farmer/ producers in Asia and the Pacific.
IMSE is a project partner of the above project and also the sub- National Implementing Agency (NIA) for this project in eastern India. The project areas of IMSE are presently in West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. Through this project IMSE aims to target and reach farmers and rural producers, especially smallholder and vulnerable farmer/ producers (and their households), through their farmer organizations. 2 FPC registrations are successfully completed (Monachitura Farmers Producer Company Limited and Subarnarekha Fishers Producer Company Limited). IMSE aims to promote/support even more FPCs in future under this project. Number of farmers benefitted so far under this project: 104273 (43,462 women and 28,466 youth).
The activities under this project include:
● Farmers Organisation services development- IMSE aims to enable small farmers to access long-term professional services, and business services especially from their organizations, enabling them to gain a decent regular income and access to markets. One of the two core activities under this component is facilitating agribusiness partnerships.
● Policy engagement for livelihood development.
● Promotion of Cooperative and FPCs with a strong gender focus and training on accounts and bookkeeping.
● Training on Value Chain and Marketing.
● Training on Organisation Management.
● Training on Business Plan Development.
● Training on Innovative Agricultural Practices.
● Advocacy and network building with other stakeholders like academia and research institute.
